Garden of Memories
March 19 through May 23
Solo exhibit of twenty-five textile and photographic works. Missouri Botanical Gardens, Monsanto Hall, upper level of the Ridgway Visitor Center, St. Louis, MO.

This exhibit featured 25 works on cloth that explored time and memory through photographic images of plants. In one process, I carefully stitch garden flowers and leaves to linen and old tea towels, allowing them to age slightly before photographing the composition. In others, I explore ideas of memory and capture shadows and silhouettes of plants in the winter sunlight. The photographs are printed onto prepared flour-sack-cloth dishtowels (a metaphor for lost domestic rituals) and silk fabric through a wide format ink-jet printer. Detailed sections of the print are created then layered and stitched onto the cloth marking time, referencing Japanese Boro textiles and earlier domestic practices of mending and repair, reuse and re-purposing.
In the 20 narrow works, 36" x 16", the titles and flowers are chosen because of their historical symbolic meanings. In the upper section of these pieces, the flower composition suggests classic botanical illustrations. The photographs in
the lower section of each work references earth/land.
